Last year for the tents... |

One tradition that is ending this year is the rising of the tents. I think the army tent has been around for the past 20 years, but I'm not sure about the other one. There have always been tents around during camp. At one time, these tents were the boys' dorms while the girls enjoyed the nice, plushy, comfort of a half-finished, look-through-the-two-by-four wall dorm house. Once the boys had dorms for themselves, the tents served as VBS class rooms...daytime saunas. Well not anymore. Now that the extension to the tabernacle building will be finished for next year, classes will be held in air-conditioned class rooms. Kind of takes a little camp out of camp, huh? I'm sure Rev. Ronda Arnett will not miss these traditional dorm/class rooms, but they will be fixtures that will be missed for the oncoming years. I can just hear the stories down the road..."Well back in my day, we had classes in tents!" One tradition that is not pictured this year is the serenade. When the shaving cream came out on Thursday, the serenade priviledge was taken away. Hopefully, this day will not be forgotten so that the serenade will return next year. I do have to admit, though, that Thursday night was one of the most peaceful nights as a dorm counselor. ;-) |

Danny and Clint supervise and Rev. Ronda and Rev. Eudell take down the tents. Actually, Rev. Ronda looks way to happy knowing that this is the last year for the tents. |
